What is an RSS Feed?

RSS (or RDF Site Summary and Really Simple Syndication) is the most popular format used over the last few years to export and distribute Web contents. RSS has become widespread following the use of the new format by main information sites, content suppliers and recently many blogs.
Another fundamental element that has made RSS popular is the speed at which the contents and updates are delivered in real time.
By using an aggregating software it is possible to follow dozens of sites without having to open each one.

How to read an RSS Feed

RSS Feeds can be acquired on your computer using special software, feed readers or on-line aggregation services such as MyYahoo, Google Reader or Feedburner.
A feed reader is a software that downloads an RSS feed by simply indicating the URL of Feed, parses it and displays the contents according to user preferences.
There are many feed readers available: some are stand-alone applications, others are plug-ins for other programs such as the extensions for e-mail programs or Web browsers.
It is very easy to include a Feed in a software. Just copy the Feed address (Url) and paste it in your favourite feed reader.
